Emerging Roof Trends of 2022
The roofing industry has seen a lot of changes recently with shortages in materials, design trends changing, and the rise of solar power. Let’s take a look at some of the emerging trends, we will likely see more and more of this year.
Large, gabled roofing is out.
In current architecture designs, we are seeing more and more mid-century modern-style roofs, with modern, clean lines. Lower roofs and even flat designs are much easier to install solar panels and much less costly to construct. Fewer hips, dormers, and pitch is becoming the increasingly popular choice.
Eco-Friendly+ Energy Efficient
There’s been a big surge in different materials that are more eco-friendly, with a focus on more energy-efficient roofing as well. But, not all of these new materials are quality and though they may become better over time, we won’t be recommending any of those alternatives just yet. There are some worth mentioning, however.
Cool Roofs are a specialty roof made with a reflective coating, typically light in color, that reflects harmful, hot rays off your home helping your internal temperature stay regulated. Cool roofs can improve the durability of your roof and decrease a building’s cooling load.
Smog-Reducing Granules were rated one of the top 50 best inventions in 2018 and continue to be a great option for shingles. Malarkey shingles include 3M™ Smog-Reducing Granules, these granules when exposed to UV rays break down smog particles so they can be washed away by rain. By integrating these granules, Malarkey shingles help actively reduce emission-based air pollution equivalent to planting ~2 trees per roof.
What do you think of these roof trends? If you were replacing your roof this year, what would you choose?
