Giving back to your community is a simple way of showing gratitude to the people and to where you lived. In one way or another, the community you grew up in has contributed to your growth as a person — whether it is good or bad. Many times people think that giving back or volunteering means being as rich as Bill Gates or people who have a lot of time on their hands. But that is not true.
Giving back can be as simple as giving your time, talent, and energy to contribute to a cause you are passionate about. With the blessing of technology, the internet is your window to these opportunities.
Nowadays, you may wonder how you can give back with this pandemic situation the world is facing, especially when there are rules such as staying home and social distancing. Being in isolation can take its toll on people mentally and emotionally. The human brain is hardwired to think of one’s self interests first. But more often these self-centered thoughts lead to depression. Have you heard that it is better to give than receive? It’s a true statement.

Share with your community
Share what is happening within your community. See an online post, tweet, or ad of a local charity on social media? Share it! See a Facebook event asking for donations? Share it! A friend offering her services to earn a little extra? Share it! This simple act can help them reach more people and possibly be heard by a larger company who may be able to address their needs.
Donate to your community
Donate your time and resources to your community. If you have the extra financial means, why not use it to help others? Donate financially to a charity of your choice.
Otherwise, you can donate your time, talent, or unused items helping out your local hospital or neighbor’s small business. For example, if you have the gift of digital art, you can create posters for them that can make it more attractive for people online to take notice.
Give back to your community
Give time and resources to your community. The internet has definitely made communication easier with people from all around the world. With that we are able to help our neighbors who we may have never even met. With Facebook Groups being so popular, a lot of groups have popped up with neighbor helping neighbor content in them. Give some groceries to someone in need, give the extra books you may have lying around, etc.
Another way to support small businesses in your area, is to support them financially. Instead of heading to a big chain store, can you buy that same thing at a small business?
These small acts of sharing and giving can greatly contribute to your overall health. It is when you focus on helping others where you will feel most fulfilled. Reaching out to people in their time of need will give you purpose and meaning in your life.
